What You Might Be Wondering
-
Ayurveda is a traditional system of Indian medicine with roots dating back over 5,000 years. The word comes from Sanskrit and translates to "the science of life" — a holistic science that seeks to harmonize body, mind, spirit, and environment.
-
Abhyanga is distinct from a traditional deep tissue or therapeutic massage. Rooted in Ayurveda, it is the intentional application of warm herbal oil to the body with the purpose of nourishing the skin, supporting the tissues, and inviting deep rest. Rather than focusing on muscle manipulation, abhyanga uses gentle, flowing movements to encourage relaxation, circulation, and a deeper connection with the body. This grounding, full-body session may also include optional abdominal work.
-
Ayurveda views the first forty-two days after childbirth as a vital window for rest, healing, nourishment, and bonding between mother and baby. The Sacred Window calls for attentive, individualized care to deeply support mothers as they recover and enter new parenthood.
-
As soon as you're feeling ready. Traditionally, mothers receive abhyanga within the first week postpartum following a vaginal delivery.
After a cesarean birth, full-body Abhyanga is typically introduced around 10–14 days postpartum, depending on your individual healing and readiness. Lymphatic support and the application of warm oil to the hands and feet is often appropriate in the early days following a c-section. Each session is adapted to support your recovery, and the incision area is avoided until it has healed.
-
Absolutely — and many moms do. If you'd rather have the hour entirely to yourself, that's wonderful too.
-
If your menstrual cycle has returned, abhyanga is best received after days 1-3 of your cycle. If you’re preparing to conceive, abhyanga is best received during the follicular phase before ovulation.
For your comfort, please have a pair of socks and clothes that you don’t mind getting oily. It’s recommended to leave the oil on your skin for 1–2 hours after your session before showering.
-
We recommend eating a light meal at least 20 minutes before your session begins. Wear something comfy, and give yourself a few unhurried minutes to arrive.
-
Abhyanga isn't recommended during acute illness, congestion, or fever; in areas of inflammation, infection, or open skin; or with certain conditions like uncontrolled high blood pressure. Please let us know about any health conditions before booking.
