What Our Patients Say About Our Care
Every journey is different, but our patients share the same experience — feeling calmer, more balanced, and supported along the way.
I cannot recommend Dr. Nicole Lizzio enough! I initially sought her care for fertility support. Thanks to her expertise, I was able to have a healthy pregnancy, and her treatments were also instrumental in reducing stress throughout the journey.

I started seeing Nicole for acupuncture pre-pregnancy, having heard that acupuncture can help with conception, and continued throughout my pregnancy and postpartum journey. For people in Groton, get into The Violette House ASAP!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What to Know About Fertility Acupuncture
-
Acupuncture supports fertility by calming the nervous system, improving blood flow to the reproductive organs, and helping regulate stress, sleep, and menstrual patterns. Many patients share that they feel more relaxed, steady, and supported during what can be an emotional process. This greater sense of balance not only improves quality of life, but also creates conditions where conception and pregnancy feel more possible.
-
If trying naturally, starting 2–3 months before you hope to conceive lets us observe a few cycles and build consistency. For IUI/IVF, begin 6–8 weeks before your cycle if possible. Common touchpoints include: pre-stim prep, during stimulation, the day before/of retrieval, the day of transfer, and again within a few days after. For sperm support, plan at least one full spermatogenesis window (about 10–12 weeks).
-
Most people do weekly sessions while trying to conceive. During high-stakes weeks (stims, retrieval, transfer), we may add one or two extra visits. Expect an initial 8–12-week plan, then we reassess based on cycle changes, stress, sleep, and how you’re feeling. The goal is steady, sustainable support rather than “more is better.”
-
Yes, when performed by a licensed practitioner trained in reproductive care. We modify points after ovulation/transfer and throughout pregnancy, and we avoid contraindicated points. Acupuncture does not replace your fertility medications and is designed to complement them. Please bring your med list; we’ll coordinate with your OB/REI. We only suggest herbs or supplements with your provider’s awareness, especially during active treatment.
-
Your first appointment (about 60 minutes) includes a detailed intake—health history, cycle tracking, stress/sleep/digestion, and goals—followed by a gentle, relaxing treatment. You may feel warmth, heaviness, or a brief dull ache that fades quickly. We’ll create a personalized plan, review timing around ovulation/IUI/IVF, and share simple at-home support (hydration, sleep timing, light movement, and safe acupressure).
-
Some plans do — but it varies. We’re in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield and AllWays/Mass General Brigham, and we can help verify your coverage. If you have another provider, we can provide a superbill for reimbursement and guide you through the process so it’s quick and stress-free. Click here to check if your insurance covers acupuncture.
